The Sourcebook Project is creating a comprehensive archival and documentary record intended for long-term preservation, formal cataloguing, and institutional stewardship.
Voices Preserved records oral-history interviews and personal testimony so that future generations can hear the voices of people who knew David, were connected to his life, or experienced September 11.
NorthTower100.com extends this work into moving images.
Following completion of the Sourcebook Project and the Oral History Project, the intention is to create a self-financed, professionally filmed television-style production in which David Tengelin remains at the center of the story, with his brother, Patric Tengelin, providing the personal narration and participating in the interviews.
The production will bring together many years of research and preservation in a visual format. While New York and the places connected to David's life will naturally form part of the story, the project is not limited to any single location.
Filming may take place wherever meaningful conversations, perspectives, or opportunities for reflection can be found. Different locations and settings may provide different ways of examining the subjects that emerge from David's story.
The name NorthTower100.com reflects the place where David reached what he considered one of the greatest achievements of his life.
After arriving in New York in 1999, he worked toward a career that ultimately brought him to the 100th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
When his brother visited him on the 100th floor in July 2001, he encountered an atmosphere of optimism, ambition, friendship, and enthusiasm for the future.
The 100th floor therefore represents far more than a location associated with a historical event. It represents a defining chapter of David's life and the culmination of years of effort, determination, and achievement.
The documentary may explore subjects that emerge naturally from years of research, remembrance, and personal reflection.
These may include memory, grief, loss, resilience, remembrance, personal identity, historical understanding, and the ways in which our interpretation of significant events can change over time.
Conversations with historians, educators, psychologists, witnesses, researchers, and others may form part of the production where their experience or expertise can contribute meaningful perspectives.
The locations in which these conversations take place may vary widely. Some may be directly connected to David's life or to the events of September 11; others may simply provide an appropriate setting for reflection and discussion.
The documentary is intended to complement the written, archival, and oral-history work rather than replace it.
A book can preserve the written record. Oral history can preserve the voices of those who were there and those who knew David. Moving images can add another dimension by preserving people, places, conversations, journeys, and the visual context surrounding the story.
Together, these forms are intended to create material that can remain useful to future researchers, educators, students, cultural institutions, and others seeking to understand David Tengelin and the historical circumstances surrounding his life.
The project is being developed without commercial objectives. Its primary purpose is preservation, education, and remembrance.
Any completed production may ultimately be donated to museums, archives, libraries, educational institutions, and other organizations committed to long-term stewardship and public memory.
Development will proceed at its own pace. No release date has been established.
